Van Heerden and Van der Vyver Incorporated commenced operations in 1983 as a two-man show trading as V&V Consulting Engineers and was founded with the specific intention of becoming a leader in the field of road maintenance and rehabilitation with particular emphasis being placed on the development of pavement management systems.
These endeavours culminated in success when V&V became the first South African engineering company to provide assistance to local road authorities in the development, implementation and operation of Pavement Management Systems.
By the end of the 20th century this successful involvement had led to the implementation of Pavement Management Systems at almost 150 local authorities throughout South Africa.
This vast network of systems spanning South Africa necessitated the establishment of strategically situated offices throughout the country with a concomitant increase in staff.
In 1999 V&V Holdings was conceived when it became apparent that as the new South Africa enters the 21st century greater challenges and, therefore, new opportunities would be created for a firm involved in the provision of essential services for the upliftment of communities and also with an awareness of the need to gear itself to the furtherance of black empowerment and black participation in management within the engineering environment in Southern Africa.
The decision to incorporate the four existing entities within the V&V Holdings Group was taken with the above factors in mind. This new approach cleared the way for the introduction of black entrepreneurs at all levels of operations in both the business and professional (technical) sphere. The grouping together of the different operations resulted in accelerated in-house training, greater exposure and support for previously disadvantaged members of staff.
V&V holdings is more than just a holding company - it is the way forward to further growth, development and leadership in the engineering industry. It is also a means for the upliftment and empowerment which will impact all communities through tangible development of skills and the creation of employment opportunities.
